A real tree.
A growing memorial.

what a living legacy tree is

A memorial that grows.

We turn the ashes of someone you love into nutrients for a living tree, planted in Mornington Green and tended by our horticulture team.

You can arrange a tree at need, pre-plan your own, or create a memorial for a family member or pet. Every arrangement includes a planting ceremony.

Before ashes can become nutrients, they have to be transformed. Here is what happens, from the garden gate to the day your tree goes in the ground.

The ceremony

A farewell held among the trees.

Every Living Legacy Tree begins with a ceremony in the garden.

What your reservation includes.

  • Put a loved one's ashes to rest while securing your own plan

  • Every ash infusion at no extra cost

  • A memorial ceremony for up to 15 guests, included in your tree reservation

  • The best locations and tree species are going fast. Waiting means missing out.

Good to know. We hold only a few ceremonies each day, so the garden stays quiet. Chairs, shade and accessible paths are provided.

the formula

The formula that turns
ashes into tree food.

pH 12

Untreated ashes have the same pH as bleach, which is why scattering can stop new growth, even when it feels natural. So we built a process that does the opposite. It transforms ashes into the nutrients a tree needs to thrive.

What it does

The formula neutralises the high pH. The ashes become nitrogen, potassium, and other nutrients a tree can absorb.

The patent

The formula is patented. Living Legacy developed it, and it is now the recognised standard in the industry.

Industry adoption

The formula is used by Centennial Park Adelaide, Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW, and Living Legacy Conservation Forest Wellington Dam.

How it works

From ashes to
a growing tree.

From the moment we receive the ashes to the day the tree is planted, the process takes five steps.

We collect and measure the ashes with the family. Every set of ashes is handled by name, never by number.

The patented formula neutralises the high pH of the ashes so they can support life instead of stopping it.

The nutrients are infused into the soil beneath your tree at its recorded GPS location in the garden.

Our horticulture team tends to your tree for life. Through every season, their presence keeps growing too.

Your family gathers in the garden for a farewell shaped around you, with the infusion marking the beginning of the legacy.

How it compares

How it compares
to the alternatives.

Most families weigh a Living Legacy Tree against three alternatives: scattering ashes, a cemetery plot, or a biodegradable urn. Side by side, the trade-offs become clear.

Living Legacy Tree

Fixed GPS location, protected garden

Walk-in access to your tree, year-round.

Scattering ashes

No fixed place

The memorial fades with the wind.

Cemetery plot

A grave site, restricted hours

Limited atmosphere for gatherings.

Biodegradable urn

Wherever it was planted

Often private land. Uncertain access for family.

Ongoing fees
Living Legacy Tree

One price, perpetual care

No ongoing fees, ever.

Scattering ashes

None

There is also nothing to maintain.

Cemetery plot

Annual maintenance fees

Costs compound across generations.

Biodegradable urn

None up front

Care of the tree falls to the family.

Soil & pH impact
Living Legacy Tree

pH neutralised, becomes tree food

Treated with the patented formula to remove harmful chemistry.

Scattering ashes

High pH stresses surrounding plants

Untreated ashes match the pH of bleach and stress surrounding plants.

Cemetery plot

Sealed underground

No soil contact, no environmental return.

Biodegradable urn

Releases untreated high pH

Often stresses the tree and stunts its growth.

Memorial endures
Living Legacy Tree

Yes, with professional care

Our horticulture team tends the tree for life.

Scattering ashes

No, it disperses

There is nothing left to tend.

Cemetery plot

Conditional on fees

The plot may revert if maintenance lapses.

Biodegradable urn

Tree often fails

pH and conditions stress many. The memorial may not endure.

the garden

The garden where the trees live.

Our garden in Somerville is a real, returnable place. Trees mark every memorial, the seasons cycle, and families come back when they need to. For an anniversary. For a quiet moment. For no reason at all. The land is protected by a conservation covenant, so it cannot be sold or redeveloped. Your tree's exact spot is recorded with GPS, so you can find it through every season, for as long as it grows.

The fastest way to understand a Living Legacy Tree is to walk through the garden.

Questions

Common questions

Answers to the questions families ask most.

No. Mornington Green is a living memorial garden, not a cemetery. There are no headstones, no rows of plots, and no cemetery-style administration. Each memorial is a living tree in a garden setting with year-round visitor access.

Yes. The Living Legacy Formula is patented and is the recognised industry standard for ash infusion into living trees. It is used by Centennial Park Adelaide, Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW, and Living Legacy Conservation Forest Wellington Dam.

Your family gathers in the garden with a dedicated host. There is time to speak, to share stories, and to take part in the infusion and planting if you wish. Ceremonies are shaped entirely around your family.

We work alongside your chosen funeral director. Once cremation is complete, we collect and measure the ashes with your family and guide you through every step from there.

Yes. Many families come to us with ashes that have been stored at home for months or years. There is no time limit. We receive the ashes and proceed from there.

Untreated ashes have a pH of around 12, the same as bleach. Scattering them can damage soil and harm vegetation over time. Our formula neutralises the pH before infusion, making the process safe for the tree and the soil.
